There are lots of variables that affect the cost of waste disposal for a business such as -
Container Size

The size of the container affects the cost of waste disposal. Bin sizes can range from a 2 litre sharps bin through to a 40 yard roll on roll off container. The container is dependent on what is being disposed of, the volume of waste and how often it is emptied.

Frequency
The frequency that bins are emptied can be a big variable that affects the cost of waste disposal as waste disposal is usually invoiced on the number of times the bin is emptied.

So if you have a bin emptied twice a week you would expect to pay around double compared to if you only had your bin emptied once a week.

When deciding how often a bin should be emptied you often have to work around a suppliers visit. If the supplier only visits that area once a week we may look to implement 2 bins lifted weekly instead of 1 bin lifted twice a week.

Location

Location is a large factor when it comes to pricing Waste Disposal.

Some suppliers will only operate in certain areas and not others. In the remote parts of the UK such as Northern Scotland there may only be one or two suppliers that operate in a specific area. This can really affect the way that we price a client as it can seriously reduce a client's options.

If a Waste Supplier has to travel a long distance to collect your clients waste this could increase the cost of disposing of the waste. A waste supplier will look at the cost of getting to the site and will adjust their pricing accordingly.

Location can be critical to know when looking for an alternative option for a client. If your client has 2 bins lifted 3 times a week, they might be with the only supplier that lifts bins in that area 3 times a week. What we might propose, if there was a cheaper supplier in the area, is to have 3 bins lifted twice a week.

Competition
Competition in a particular area can really assist to bring down the cost of waste disposal. If we only have 2 suppliers that we can use for pricing a contract in a particular area this can be a problem as options can be limited.

If there are multiple waste suppliers operating in an area then it offers more of an opportunity to save the client money as prices tend to be more competitive.

The downside to having multiple suppliers in one concentrated area can mean that your supply could be under threat and likely to be approached by other waste suppliers.

Volume

The volume of waste can be a factor when pricing a waste contract.

Should a business have multiple sites and different waste streams then we may be able to get a better rate from the supplier.

If a business is disposing of large amounts of waste this can work as great buying power when looking for a new supplier, depending on the waste stream we might be able to increase the size of their container which could assist the business in reducing costs further.

Risk
One of the factors that will affect the cost of waste disposal is the risk involved in collecting the waste.

When pricing a contract we need to know all of the factors that could increase the risk involved to the bin collector or general public. A few of the factors that this includes are - overhead cables, narrow access, bad lighting, uneven surfaces, bad access, site restrictions and small roads on route.

All these factors need to be known to us before we can price a potential contract for waste disposal.
