Finding the MPR (Gas)

The MPR (Meter Point Reference) should be printed on your client's gas bill.

Do not confuse the MPR number with the gas supplier account number or the meter serial number printed on the gas meter. The format of a MPR is standard. It is between 6-10 numerical digits long and should be in a similar format to this -

British Gas

It can be quite hard to find an MPR on a customers bill. There are so many other reference numbers and meter serial numbers on a bill. The MPR contains only Numbers.

If you find a reference number of a bill and it contains letters this is probably the Meter Serial Number.

Here is where the MPR is on a British Gas Bill

You can see on this invoice that they have placed the MPR on the right hand side half way down page 2 of 5 within the literature.

This can be a difficult one to find as it blends in with the rest of the non important information.

Other Bills...

So suppliers don't like making it easy to find the MPR and they can literally place it anywhere. It will be on the bill, but might not on a renewal quotation.

Some suppliers place the MPR in the literature on the 1st page, others place it in the finances and workings of the bill on page 2.

Once you know what you are looking for you will soon become an expert in finding the MPR numbers on a bill.

Have a look through some Gas bills of your own to see if you can find your MPR number.
